Cub Scout Pack 332

Summary

As part of my Wood Badge leadership training, I designed and launched a website for Cub Scout Pack 332 in Red Bank, SC. The site aimed to increase engagement with current members, recruit new members, and improve visibility for events and meetings. This project served as the application phase of my Wood Badge course, allowing me to apply the leadership and project management skills developed throughout the program.

Design Process

  1. Discovery & Strategy: I began by conducting interviews with Pack 332 leaders and parents to understand their needs. Our goals were to create a user-friendly site that would keep current members informed, appeal to prospective families, and represent the Pack’s spirit and mission. A key priority was to make information such as meetings and events easily accessible on mobile devices.
  2. Content & Information Architecture: Based on feedback, I developed a content strategy to balance essential information for current and prospective members. The site was organized to prioritize upcoming events, meeting schedules, and important resources for families, with additional information like badge requirements and photo galleries to enrich the experience.
  3. Wireframing: I created wireframes with a focus on a simple, family-friendly design that highlights events, meetings, and the Scouting ethos. Visual elements were chosen to convey the adventurous spirit of Cub Scouting while ensuring clarity and usability.
  4. Development & Launch: The website was built on WordPress with responsive design for seamless use across devices. After thorough testing, I deployed the site and trained pack leaders on content maintenance for ongoing relevance.

Outcome

The completed website functions as both a communication tool for current members and a recruitment platform to attract new families. By applying my Wood Badge training, this project successfully enhanced engagement and visibility for Pack 332, benefiting the community and potential newcomers alike.

What is Wood Badge?

Wood Badge is an advanced leadership training program for adult leaders in Scouting, first introduced by Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell in 1919 in the United Kingdom. The training focuses on essential leadership and team-building skills in a hands-on, outdoor environment, welcoming participants from various Scouting backgrounds. It is one of the highest levels of training for Scouting leaders, aimed at enhancing program quality for youth by developing effective adult leaders.
